Carbonite BusinessOnline backup leader Carbonite recently announced the release of its new Carbonite Business service, which is designed for use by small and medium businesses.

Carbonite’s latest service officially launched June 15 and addresses the backup space, security, accessibility and budget necessitated by businesses.

The Carbonite line of services lets users upload photos, video, reports, presentations and other documents to a secure web-based “cloud,” which they can use to backup their computer’s data or transfer files over the Internet. In all, Carbonite sports more than a million subscribers in over 100 counties and has backed up in excess of 100 billion unique files and restored seven billion. Approximately 200 million files are added to Carbonite’s servers every day.

Considering the collaborative atmosphere that defines many of today’s businesses, clouds are a worthwhile investment because they make access and sharing easier than do other methods. They also protect important files in the unfortunate case of hardware failure.

Initially, Carbonite is offering two versions of Carbonite Business, both of which come with a free 30-day trial period. The basic package costs a flat fee of $229 per year and comes with 250 gigabytes (GB) of online storage space, while Carbonite Business Premier gives businesses 500 GB for $599 per year. Carbonite Business Premier allows users to upload from an unlimited amount of servers and computers, while Carbonite Business is compatible with an unlimited number of computers on a single server. If 250 GB is too little or 500 GB too much, Carbonite also offers supplemental storage space for both packages.

“Small business owners are increasingly aware of the importance of backing up their business data,” explained Carbonite CEO and co-founder David Friend. “Our market research has indicated that they would choose an automatic, cloud-based solution if it were affordable, so we built Carbonite Business specifically to address those needs.”

Both of Carbonite’s new backup solutions include secure off-site backup for as many computers and external hard drives as necessary, compatibility with both Windows and Macintosh-based devices, frequent automatic backups or those performed at designated intervals, file encryption to ensure data security, access to authorized files at anytime and from anywhere and customer support via phone, email or live chat. Business Premier is compatible with Windows Home Server.

In addition, Business and Business Premier each come with Valet Setup and Rapid Recovery. Valet Setup entails a Carbonite representative installing backup products on a computer remotely in order to make sure files backup correctly and that the operating system functions properly with Carbonite. In case of data failure, Rapid Recovery makes the restore process as fast and easy as it can be.

The loss of important data can be a devastating event for a business, and considering the ease of using and affordability of today’s advanced technology, no operation should ever be without an online backup solution. To that end, Carbonite Business it worth looking at if you are a small or medium size business looking for an affordable online backup solution.
