Cloud Computing for Your Car?

As cloud computing becomes more popular, it comes as no surprise that the automobile industry has found a way to incorporate it into vehicles. At Berlin’s IFA show, a global trade show for the latest technology and products, Ford revealed the Evos Concept car, a plug-in hybrid. The Evos Concept is a car with cloud computing capabilities, providing drivers with a personalized driving experience.

Features of the Evos Concept

The Evos Concept includes features that are enhanced by constantly being connected to the cloud:

  • Continuous traffic updates to allow the Evos to reroute away from traffic jams
  • Automatic climate adjustments based on climate conditions and each driver’s preferences
  • Automatically streaming the same music in the car as the person was listening to at home
  • Cloud links to personal calendars and friends

The Evos Concept would be even more efficient than current hybrids because of the cloud connection. For example, by knowing the constant changes in terrain levels, the Evos Concept can adjust powertrain modes accordingly, making each trip as fuel efficient as possible.

Since this is just a concept car right now, it won’t be available for purchase any time in the near future. However, the Evos Concept does reveal just how different driving can be, thanks to cloud computing. Not only does the Evos Concept provide an entirely personalized driving experience, it increases efficiency, making it even more environmentally friendly, a feature millions of drivers want.

What Will the Future Bring to the Automobile Industry?

Since Ford unveiled the Evos Concept, it makes many people wonder what the automobile industry has in store for the future. Cloud computing is likely to become an essential part of the industry. Like cell phones and computers changed the way we communicate and earn a living, cloud computing is likely to change the way we drive.

Cloud-linked cars have the ability to make the overall driving experience safer, more comfortable and unique. However, don’t expect any Jetson cars just yet. Technology still has a ways to go for that, but the Ford Evos is a step in the right direction.
